Day 1 – Arrival in San José

Welcome to San José! As soon as you arrive, your Group Leader will meet you at the airport and guide you to your accommodations so you can settle in comfortably. After joining your group for an orientation and safety overview, you’ll head out together on a fun walk to explore the vibrant city of San José—an incredible way to start your journey.

Day 2 – Orientation & First Spanish Lessons

Kick off your second day with an exciting group meeting in the morning. First, you’ll have an orientation covering safety and what to expect for the week. Then enjoy a lively walk around the beautiful city of San José, exploring key spots and getting familiar with the area. After lunch, the fun continues with a trip to the Choco Museo for an engaging chocolate-making workshop, before settling into your first Spanish lessons. The evening wraps up with cultural activities that introduce you to Costa Rican traditions.

Day 3 – San José Market Challenge

Start the morning with a lively Spanish lesson that sets you up to use what you’ve learned in real conversations. Later, you’ll head to a bustling local market where the “Spanish market challenge” awaits. This activity encourages you to chat with vendors and residents, sharpening your skills in a fun and authentic way.

Day 4 – San José Reality Tour

On this day, you’ll head out to visit MEDLIFE’s partner communities and get a firsthand look at the realities many families face. While learning about issues such as poverty and global health, you’ll also practice Spanish by connecting with community members in meaningful conversations.

After a mid-day lunch break, the fun continues with a friendly soccer game alongside locals. A chance to bond, laugh, and practice your Spanish in a relaxed environment. In the evening, your group will gather to reflect on the day’s experiences and build on your language skills through guided discussions.

Days 5, 6 & 7 – Service Days

Each of these days begins with an immersive Spanish lesson led by your Group Leader, designed to strengthen your language skills and prepare you for meaningful interactions ahead. After class, you’ll visit a MEDLIFE partner community, where you’ll gain firsthand insight into local challenges and use your Spanish in real conversations with community members.

Afternoons are dedicated to service projects that make a tangible difference—such as school or home renovations—allowing you to apply your Spanish in practical, hands-on ways.

In the evenings, you’ll come together with your group to reflect on the day, drawing connections between your experiences and larger global issues while continuing to practice your Spanish in thoughtful discussion.

Day 8 – Exploring Manuel Antonio

Spend the day at Manuel Antonio National Park, where you’ll discover its incredible biodiversity and enjoy a mix of outdoor adventures. From spotting wildlife along lush trails to relaxing on pristine beaches, this excursion is a highlight of the trip and offers one last chance to practice your Spanish in a natural setting.

Day 9 – Departure

Enjoy some final free time to explore or relax before your journey home. The trip concludes with a reflection session where you and your group can share insights and memories, then transfer to the airport for your return flight.
